Amharic Intelligence is a human-centered professional platform, founded by Dereje Desta, working to change that — strengthening Amharic participation in artificial intelligence and digital life.

What we do

Consultancy for AI firms and organizations. We advise global AI companies and organizations on Amharic: model evaluation, benchmarking, and AI-readiness advisory. If your systems will speak Amharic, we help make sure they speak it well.

Specialized language services. Amharic dataset quality assurance, linguistic review, and human-in-the-loop auditing of AI-translated material — the expert human layer that AI-generated Amharic requires.

Research and development. Our work is anchored by published research on Amharic AI benchmarking, speech recognition, and data collection, and by ongoing Amharic-native AI R&D.

Education and human enablement. AI and technology education for Amharic speakers, human-enablement training, and a growing learning platform for the Amharic script and language.

The applied proof

The platform’s methods run daily in practice: the Zethiopia Briefing, a source-linked bilingual news product, is produced through an agentic editorial pipeline that verifies, drafts, and distributes English–Amharic coverage — with audio editions and social distribution — demonstrating human-led AI production in a working newsroom.

The founder

Dereje Desta has spent his career in Amharic — a graduate of Addis Ababa University’s Ethiopian Languages and Literature program, a Voice of America international broadcaster and translator (2020–2025), a newspaper founder and publisher, a teacher, and a published writer — now with advanced training in generative and agentic AI. Amharic Intelligence is where those two lives meet.
