I have taught Amharic language and Ethiopian culture since 1994 — including fourteen years in the D.C. metro area (2009–2023) teaching Ethiopian and American children, adults, and families, with full curricula built from unit and daily lesson plans. Instruction grounded in a formal linguistics education and decades of broadcast-standard usage.

English–Amharic translation

Professional translation for media, organizations, and individuals: news, documents, subtitles, and cultural adaptation, not just word-for-word conversion — the same work I performed for five years at the Voice of America.

AI consulting & language services

Through Amharic Intelligence, I advise global AI firms and organizations — model evaluation, benchmarking, and AI-readiness advisory — and provide specialized Amharic language services: dataset quality assurance, linguistic review, and human-in-the-loop auditing of AI-translated material. This work is anchored by published research on Amharic AI benchmarking, speech recognition, and data collection, and informed by my experience managing technology platforms for 245 African and Middle Eastern broadcasters at AudioNow.

Event planning & community outreach

For two decades I produced Zethiopia’s anniversary galas — signature evenings for Washington’s Ethiopian American community, from planning and promotion to on-site production, convening honorees and guests from government, business, science, and culture. I bring that same skill set to organizations planning community events, cultural programs, honoree celebrations, and diaspora engagement — including the networking to fill the room and the outreach to make it matter.

Speaking

Talks on Ethiopian media, the diaspora experience, Amharic in the digital age, and AI in journalism. Past venues include the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, George Washington University, and American University.
