Radio

As an international broadcaster and translator at the Voice of America (2020–2025), I produced, translated, and fact-checked Amharic–English news for radio, television, and digital audiences worldwide — including reporting from Ethiopia on official VOA assignment in 2021. On Zethiopia Radio (WZHF AM 1390), I hosted and produced the weekly “ZEthiopia” hour for the D.C. community (2007–2008). I also contributed features to WAMU 88.5’s “Latitudes,” including “Parenting across Borders” and “The Story of the Ethiopian Diaspora, in Cake,” and my Global Perspectives documentary work aired on ABC, CBC, and RTHK.

Television

For seven years I hosted and produced Ethiopian television in America: “And Se’at ke Dereje Desta Gar” (አንድ ሰዓት ከደረጀ ደስታ ጋር) on the Ethiopian Television Network (2006–2008), an interview program featuring high-profile Ethiopians and Ethiopian Americans, and “YeHager Lij” on ESAT (2010–2013) as senior host and producer.

Print

My print career spans both sides of the Atlantic: from Addis Zemen, Ethiopia’s government daily, and Efoyta magazine, through editing Zena Addis and Ruh, to five years as editor and editor-in-chief of The Reporter — and then co-founding Eletawi Addis, Ethiopia’s first private daily newspaper, where I served as editor-in-chief, supervising more than 150 journalists in a newsroom covered by the BBC. International reporting assignments took me to Japan, Djibouti, South Korea, and Uganda. In America, that legacy continued with Zethiopia — and nearly a decade as a book editor for AESOP Enterprise.
